Community Speedwatch – results

Sessions are held regularly, covering 7 days a week, during the hours of daylight. Councillor Neil Hedger, who is the lead for Road Safety and Speedwatch, also monitors HGV traffic along the A343, writing to companies where identified, asking them to consider alternative routes wherever possible.

19th February 2024

The Speedwatch Team had started back after the winter months, with their dark evenings and the persistently bad weather stopping play.  Despite 5 sessions being arranged for the start of February, the majority had been rained off but the results were:

  • 51 cars reported to the police for travelling over 35 mph on the A343 through Hurstbourne Tarrant.
  • 16% were over 50 mph – slightly down on average figures.  A Ford S-max and a Renault Captur were the fastest.

Cllr Thomas reported that he had witnessed a vehicle captured by the SID at 48mph at 6am!

One new member had joined the team who was relatively new to the village.

Cllr Hedger had written to B&M regarding one its lorries using the A343, and asking if they could consider alternative routes for their drivers wherever possible, avoiding the A343 and its villages.
